Anything only one person (or household) can use at a time: power tools, boats, campervans, spare rooms, ski gear, DVDs, a sewing machine, a pizza oven. If two people can't use it simultaneously, AllDibs can schedule it.

Cottage is the word most Canadians use for what the rest of this site calls a cabin, and the arrangement is the same: two or more families own one place and take turns in it. Most of the trouble comes from the calendar and the bills, not the deed. A plan that holds up splits the fixed costs (property tax, insurance, the dock and roof fund) evenly and charges a small amount per night for use. It also rotates the long weekends. Ontario gets three every summer: Victoria Day, the August civic holiday and Labour Day. Canada Day makes a fourth only when July 1 lands on a Friday or a Monday, which next happens in 2030; in the years between, a family that wants it takes a day off beside it. Agree up front whether Canada Day counts as a turn, deal the weekends out in a fixed order, and start one place later every spring. Everything else goes on one shared calendar, with a cap on how many summer weekends a family can hold at once. Yes, as long as the van already belongs to you. Make one page for it, send the other family the invite link, and both households book nights on the same calendar, which turns away dates that overlap. Saturdays and Sundays come out of a separate, smaller budget: give each family four weekend credits and either one can hold two full weekends at a time, not the whole of July, and each credit returns once its night has passed. Anyone can add the bookings to Google, Apple or Outlook calendar through a private link, and the insurance papers and service record can live in the van's Files section. Where it stops: it won't rent the van to strangers, collect money, or track fuel and miles. Rental sites handle the first, and the running costs still go through a shared account. Each member of an item gets a budget of midweek credits (Mon–Fri) and weekend credits (Sat–Sun), set by the host. Booking a day spends one credit of the matching type. Once a booked day has passed, the credit comes back to you automatically.

Because weekends are what everyone fights over. A separate, smaller weekend budget means one person can't claim every Saturday while technically staying under a generic limit.

Cancelling immediately frees the days for others, and every not-yet-passed day goes back into your credit budget.

Whoever creates an item is its first host. Hosts set credit limits, manage the invite link, promote other members to co-host, and can remove members. Hosts can also hand off or share the role.

Every item has a private invite link. Send it over any chat; whoever opens it and signs in becomes a member. Hosts can regenerate the link at any time to cut off old invites.

Yes. Your first 5 items are free for as long as you use them, with unlimited members. If you need more, another 5 items costs $15 as a one-time payment, and you can buy as many of those blocks as you like. There is no subscription.

Both kinds: an item you created and an item someone invited you to each count as one item toward your own limit. Sharing an item you created doesn't cost your other members anything, since their limit is separate from yours.

Every item has a Files section for manuals, receipts, insurance documents, checklists, and whatever else the group needs. Plus one hero photo so everyone knows which drill is which.
