How many weekends are there between Memorial Day and Labor Day?
In 2027 there are 14 weeks from Memorial Day to Labor Day, which is 98 days and 15 weekends once you count the holiday weekend at each end. The summer of 2026 ran 15 weeks and 16 weekends. The table below has every year to 2032, and under it is each weekend of 2027 by date, for anyone dividing a summer among people who all want July.
How the count is made: Memorial Day is the last Monday in May and Labor Day is the first Monday in September. Days are counted from Memorial Day up to, but leaving out, Labor Day. Weekends run from the Saturday before Memorial Day to the Saturday before Labor Day, so both holiday weekends are in, which makes the weekend figure one more than the weeks. Leave out Memorial Day weekend and the two numbers match.

In Ontario: Victoria Day to Labour Day
Cottage season opens a week sooner north of the border. Victoria Day is the Monday before May 25, so the stretch to Labour Day is 15 weeks in 2027 against 14 in the United States, and 16 weekends with both ends counted.

A worked example: 15 weekends and one lake house
The count matters most to people who have to divide it. A summer feels endless in May. Then somebody counts, and it is 15 weekends for everyone to fit into.
The assumptions: the place is in the United States, every weekend from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend goes into one pot, a weekend is taken whole, and the families want the same number each as far as the arithmetic allows.

Read the four-family row. In 2026 it came out to 4 each and nobody had to think about it. In 2027 the calendar takes a week away and somebody gets 3. The rule that worked last year did not change, but one family is now a weekend short and will notice by August.
Two things keep that from turning into a grievance. Say out loud who is short this year, and put that family at the front of the line next summer. And deal the 4 long weekends separately from the ordinary ones, so the family with the short share is not also the family with no holiday. Three families have it easiest in 2027: 15 weekends come to 5 each, with nothing left over to argue about.
